The best times for photography and the village atmosphere are October-November and February-March (outside the holidays), when the light is often very beautiful and visitor numbers are low.
The best time to visit Cassis is generally in spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October): milder, more pleasant temperatures, longer days in June, fewer crowds, and conditions that are often ideal for enjoying the village, walks and viewpoints (including Cap Canaille and the Route des Crêtes).
Bathing is more comfortable from June for spring and September for autumn.
For hiking, keep in mind the access regulations.
In winter, the atmosphere is calmer and prices may be lower, but the weather is more variable (wind, cooler sea).
Practical tip: before a hike in the Calanques, check the day’s access conditions and the weather.
In July and August, Cassis is busier and warmer:
access to natural areas (particularly the Calanques massif) may also be regulated or temporarily prohibited depending on the risk of fire.
If you’re coming in summer, it’s best to arrive early in the morning or at the end of the day, and plan ahead for parking and bookings (boats, restaurants, accommodation).
